1. Security window film will increase the windows strength, which will delay or prevent a burglar from gaining entry.
2. Security window film has been knowing to reduce injuries due to the broken glass when a window is shattered. This can be as a result of an accident, vandalism, a bomb going off, or a natural disaster.
3. Some kinds of security window film can offer advantages which are not actually related to security. Such as heat reduction, and reducing how much UV rays come into a building.
Security Tint Window Film
Security window film can either be one or multiple layers of polyester film, which are laminated together using special glue. Security window film also has a different thickness ranging from 100 microns to 350 microns. Thicker films are made by laminating several layers of thinner film. Different kinds of films and adhesives can be used depending on what the desired characteristics are of the finished product. Security window film comes with varying widths, however, the most common are 36″, 48″, 60″, and 72″.
Generally, the thicker the film is the stronger it will be. As the thickness of the film gets higher, the degree of break strength will also increase. Thicker film costs more because of the number of materials used, and the extra manufacturing time needed.
For most security options, 8 mils to 14 mil thickness are often used. Thinner films are used in environments which are lower in threat levels, or when the main reason for installing the film is protection against UV rays. Thicker films are used in environments which are a higher threat and extra security protection is required.
